Breaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today we focus on Lamar Divens.

Here at Niners Nation, we're presenting a series called "90-in-90". We'll be looking at every player on the San Francisco 49ers offseason roster, one player per post, from now until the start of training camp.

Given how much chatter we have seen with the Ahmad Brooks-Lamar Divens assault situation, now seemed as good a time as any to put together our 90-in-90 roster breakdown of 49ers defensive tackle Divens. His chances of making the roster are slim, but with the turnover at nose tackle, you never know what might happen.

The 49ers originally signed Divens December 26, 2012, adding him to their practice squad for the final week of the regular season, and through the playoffs. They then signed him to a reserve/future contract shortly after the Super Bowl. Divens has been in the NFL since 2008, but he's bounced around enough that he continues to use practice squad eligibility. He was originally signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent, before being claimed off waivers at the end of camp by the Ravens, where he spent three seasons with limited playing time. He spent some time with the Buccaneers practice squad in 2011, and then the Titans, Texans and 49ers in 2012. He's certainly been a traveling man.

Divens is a big man, standing 6'3 and weighing 340 pounds. He will compete for playing time at nose tackle, where he is one of those traditional large individuals clogging up space. He will likely spend camp as the third string nose tackle.

What to expect in 2013

More than likely, Divens will be released by the end of training camp. If he did actually manage to make the roster, it would be thanks to a surprisingly strong performance in training camp, and a poor performance by Ian Williams or Glenn Dorsey. And even in that case, it still seems like a long shot. In reality, what to expect is basically he is a camp body who gets some garbage time late in the preseason games. While there will be plenty of competition in training camp, Glenn Dorsey and Ian Williams will be the guys handling that nose tackle role.

Odds of making the roster

Somewhere between slim and none, and slim left town.
