An insider's view on NFL training camps.

Andrew Brandt recently posted an informative article on SI's new MMQB site about roster cuts in training camp. In it there was one quote that I would like to highlight to possibly shed some light on the Niners Nation debates about the final 53 roster spots.

If you think training camps are about having an open competition, guess again. Teams have proprietary depth charts going into camp, different from the ones shared with the media. There are usually between four and six spots that are open to competition, depending largely on numbers and personnel groupings rather than the performance of players on the bubble.

I just thought folks should hold this in mind as they evaluate the coming roster moves.

(I tried to embed the link within the blurb but it literally ran away over to the right, tablet related? I have no idea.)
