Frank The Tank In Vintage Form

In the same way it was a joy to watch Montana and Young carve up defenses with laser like throws, it's been a joy to watch the greatest running back in 49ers history make fools of NFL defenses. If you saw last night's pre-season skirmish against the Chiefs, then you probably saw Frank Gore's 52-yard run.

Most running backs would run into the dogpile and try to force their way through to no avail, but Frank has the best vision of any back in the league and sees opportunities that most players don't. His resilience is also well-documented having had both knees surgically reconstructed after injuries in college gave him a snow-ball's chance in the Mojave desert.

So I say enjoy Frank while we still have him in peak form even at the age of 30. Enjoy seeing him fool NFL defenses into thinking he's going out of bounds only to turn it back in for more yards. Enjoy watching him bounce off defenders and roll into the end-zone for six. Enjoy watching him pick up a blitz and flatten an opposing linebacker. He's been a jack of all trades, a consummate pro and maybe this is the year he crosses the 10,000 yard mark, a milestone that few could have foreseen 8 years ago when five running backs were drafted ahead of him, none of whom are nearly as accomplished as Frank The Tank.
