It has been a "busy" week for 49ers transactions, as the 49ers released fan favorite Ricardo Lockette, signed free agent quarterback Seneca Wallace, placed Darcel McBath on injured reserve, and claimed linebacker Joe Holland off waivers. These are not huge moves, but they do keep us on our toes as we try to project out the 49ers 53-man roster when the final roster cuts come through in a couple weeks.
Here once again are the 53 guys I see on the roster, along with the first five off. That means the five just missing out on a roster spot, as opposed to the first five roster cuts, just to be clear. Here was the last roster projection, prior to last week's 49ers-Chiefs game. For this updated version, I'm again using the strike-through format to show changes from the last projection.

Last week, I was not really sure what to do with Austin Collie. This week, I decided I would just go with my gut. His work has been almost entirely in the fourth quarter, but I just have a hunch he is making the roster. There has been some chatter about the 49ers going with five receivers, but I also think that barring two big performances these final two preseason games, there is a decent chance Jon Baldwin open the season inactive.
MarQueis Gray is climbing in my projections, as he is now in the first five off group. If he has a strong performance this week, it could be tough for the 49ers to slide him through waivers and onto the practice squad. Matt Maiocco has gone so far as to project him onto the 53-man roster, but I'm not completely there yet. Of course, given his QB work in college, maybe HE becomes the backup QB. OK, maybe not.
Finally, I have pulled out Demarcus Dobbs from the roster, and listed him as suspended. I think he still makes the roster, but the 49ers will have an option to apply for a roster exemption. They could simply keep him inactive Week 1, but we haven't heard one way or another on that.
