The Parys Haralson trade to the Saints for a 7th round draft pick set off a near rabble-rabble-lution in the comments section of Niner’s Nation. A lot of folks were disappointed in the haul and in the hands of a normal General Manager their concerns would be warranted. However, Baalke-jitsu is particularly deadly in the draft’s closing rounds. Look at Baalke’s 7th round picks since 2010 and the results have been exceptional.
Bruce Miller - DL turned starter as fullback and is perhaps Baalke’s best 7th round pick.
Miker Persons - Snooping around on fieldgulls, it looks like he’s secured a spot as their 6th OL and swing tackle on a fairly stacked roster.
Curtis Holcomb - Baalke’s 7th round AJ Jenkins. He briefly played for Jacksonville and looks like he’s out of the league.
Cam Johnson - After the San Diego game, I think it’s clear Cam Johnson is our future.
BJ Daniels - I shall call him Mini-Kaep
Carter Bykowski - Too soon to tell but looks like a potential swing tackle that should make the practice squad.
Marcus Cooper - Bubble guy, if he gets cut I wouldn't be surprised if he makes another roster. I’m sure the team hopes he makes it to the practice squad.
By my count, that makes Baalke 7 for 8 on 7th round picks. I’m not sure how other GM’s have done in the 7th but I think it’s important to cling to the mantra "In Harbaalke we trust." We saved some money to sign Kaepernick, Aldon, and Iupati, and traded Harrelson for possibly the next Bruce Miller, AJ Daniels or Cam Johnson. As Niner fans our problems are pretty gold plated.
