Doesn't Matter How We Get to the Super Bowl

It's time to stop caring about stats. In 2011, l wanted to see the 49ers go the whole season without allowing a rushing touchdown, and they almost did. I also wanted Aldon Smith to set the rookie sack record. Then I wanted the 49ers to be remembered as one of the greatest defenses of all time. And then finally I wanted them to win the Superbowl. Well they didn't win.

Last year I wanted an encore of our dominant defense from the previous season. I wanted Alex Smith to get the record for most pass attempts without an interception. I wanted Aldon Smith to get the single season sack record too. There are a lot of things I've wanted the team and individual players to accomplish but the one thing above all else is to win Superbowl.

After this Seattle game I'm done with all the stats and achievements. I don't care about it anymore. I don't need 20 sacks from Smith. I don't need another All-Pro season from Patrick Willis. I don't care if we allow 25 points a game all season. Because no one remembers how you got there, they only remember who got there.

I'm sick and done with all this foreplay the 49ers have been teasing me with since 2011. They reinforce my faithfulness for the past decade with a glorious 13-3 season and then lose in the NFC Championship game. Then they go and make a Superbowl appearance last year and lose. But I'm not mad at them! I'm just sad.

This year none of the stats matter to me. I don't care if we go 8-8, if Kaepernick throws 25 interceptions, and Gore only averages 30 yards a game. I still wont care if Smith only gets five sacks for the season and Willis and Bowman don't make All-Pro.

All I care about now is making the playoffs and I don't care how shitty we look getting there. Because you know what, no one, and I mean no one will want to play an 8-8 49ers team in the playoffs. Everyone knows we have the potential to be the best team in the league. This 49ers team might not play the best, or look the best, but they have the potential to be the best. Nobodies ceiling is as high as ours. Our defense, on its best day, is better than any other defense in the league on their best day. Throw in a offense that has the potential to be a top 10 offense and you have a recipe for greatness.

For the past two years, our team has been the best team in football, yet when it counted, we didn't play to our full potential. Eli Manning and Joe Flacco played horrible in the regular season on their Superbowl runs, but they won the Superbowl, because they balled out when it mattered most. Not to say we didnt, but we didn't play our best.

So go ahead Kaepernick, throw 25 interceptions and go ahead Willis, miss 20 tackles this season, I don't care. Just get to the playoffs because no one is going to want to play us when we get there.
