Week Four College Football Open Thread

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

A look at the match ups for the Top 25 and some games to watch.

Week four of the 2013 college football season is upon us and, unfortunately, there aren't any must see games. Heck, even ESPN's College GameDay has punted on this week opting to host the popular Saturday morning pregame show in Fargo, North Dakota. Yes, Fargo, North Dakota where the fighting Bison of North Dakota State will take on Delaware State Hornets.

Turns out North Dakota State is actually pretty good. Still, Fargo? I'll set the over/under for the number of "wood-chipper" references during Saturday are telecast at 1.5.

Here are the match ups for the top 25 teams in the nation.

Games to watch:

Arizona State @ Stanford

  • Arizona State had exactly zero players drafted into the NFL in 2012 and have only had eight total in the last five years. This season, the Sun Devils boast at least three NFL worthy prospects. The most notable is All-American defensive tackle Will Sutton. Sutton size (6-0, 280lbs) will be a detriment in the NFL but his 23.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in 2012 could earn him a first round draft grade if duplicated again in 2013. Also, keep an eye on underrated pass rusher Carl Bradford who lines up as ASU's "devilbacker".
  • Stanford has a handful of guys that will be playing on Sunday's next season. DE/OLB Trent Murphy figures to be the only one drawing serious first round hype. Murphy is athletic enough to have value in multiple fronts. He's one of the better pass rushers in this year's class with a solid 2013 campaign Murphy could be a mid to late first round pick. I also really like left tackle David Yankey. Yankey allowed only one sack in 2012, his first season at tackle.

Other games of note:

Auburn @ LSU

  • LSU is once again supplying the NFL with an impressive class of pro prospects. Strong safety Craig Loston is an intriguing player to watch. Loston likely would have been a mid-round pick last year but decided to return to lead a young LSU defense. If the Niners fair well with Eric Reid (from LSU) it wouldn't shock me to seem return to the well in 2014.

Michigan State @ Notre Dame

  • Michigan State's Darqueze Dennard is a 5-11, 197lb corner whose draft stock is already on the rise. Dennard is one of the top cover corners in the nation and figures to be the running for a first round pick. Dennard only posted three interceptions last year but at least one scout thought he was the best pro prospect on last year's team which included Le'Veon Belle, Dion Sims, and Will Gholston.

Savannah State @ Miami

  • No, I don't have the inside scoop on a sleeper wide receiver from Savannah State. I do, however, want to call attention the line on this game. Savannah State is +60. It's the third time since 2012 that the Tigers have been spotted 60+ points. In the 2012 opener, SSU was a 65 point dog to Oklahoma State and lost 84-0. The following week SSU was a 60 point dog to Florida State losing ‘only' 55-0.

Happy Saturday!
