My Week 1 Observations

I only got to watch the game once, so I might not be looking at some of this the right way, but that's part of the point of writing it, right? So everyone else can correct me? :)

Here is what stood out to me:

Will everyone now please admit that Colin Kaepernick is ready to be a starting NFL QB? I mean, now that he actually has 11 starts...

I am happy if the team sticks with Perrish Cox as kickoff returner. I thought he looked good when he actually got an opportunity...

The kick coverage units actually looked pretty decent; admittedly, it helped that the Packers' KR made some very bad decisions about coming out of the endzone...

Justin Smith is a beast. Dorsey was in for a few snaps in Cowboy's spot; Dorsey looked alright, but I immediately saw the difference when Smith was not in the game. He manhandles offensive linemen. Also, along these same lines, Ian Williams is a serious upgrade over Isaac Sopoaga...

Did anyone catch any passes while Nnamdi was covering them? I didn't pay super-close attention to this, but it did seem like every time I saw #28 it was after an incompletion...

Randy Moss will be eating some humble pie this week after watching Vernon Davis...

Anyone else think that the receiving corps is going to be OK? If Manningham/Crabtree come back healthy, this could actually be one of the best receiving corps in the division (and maybe the league)...

How many meme's and T-shirts do you think are going to be made with Kaep's postgame quote on them? (If intimidation is your gameplan, you'd better have a better one) Classic...

Eric Reid made some mistakes, but he has the potential to be better than Dashon Goldson ever was. No disrespect intended to Predator, but Reid has big-hit ability mixed with some coverage ability that I just don't remember seeing from Goldson...

The last 49er QB to throw for over 400 yards was Tim Rattay, nearly 10 years ago. That must have been after I stopped watching them because I was so mad about the Mariucci firing (outside of the fact that they were just horrible)...

I don't remember seeing a game like yesterday's from a 49ers' receiver since Terrell Owens was on the team. Boldin is a monster...

Obviously this pace will slack off a bit based on fatigue, gameplan, etc., but Kaep is on pace for over 6,500 yards and 48 TD passes. Aldon Smith is on pace for 32 sacks this season...

What would Bill Walsh think of today's 49ers team?...

Based on yesterday's officiating and the fact that GB was the opponent, was anyone else nervous that the game was going to end on another Fail Mary call?...

Good to see Bruce Miller more involved in the offense. That guy is a serious threat as a sixth or seventh option. Also nice to see Boldin/Davis in the backfield with Kaep and helping to replace Walker's snaps a bit. Serious upgrade...

Vance McDonald did drop that one pass that I thought he should have caught, but man he looks good! Can't wait for him to get acclimated to the NFL!...

In one of my fantasy leagues, I have both Kaepernick and Rogers (it's a 2QB league). They scored 75 points for me yesterday. I think they single-handedly won this week for me...

Clay Matthews should never again reveal GB's defensive strategy before a game begins. In fact, he should probably just keep his mouth closed for a while. I can't imagine Bowman, Willis or even Aldon Smith doing something like that. And why wasn't he ejected for that clear late hit and then the punch to Staley afterwards? Speaking of that, how about the O-Line standing up for it's teammates!...

It will probably be a lot easier to run the ball when teams are not stacking the line of scrimmage and blitzing so much. I'm not worried about the low rushing yards yesterday and don't think that it is any reflection on Gore or Hunter...

Can't wait to see the game vs. Seattle next week!!!
