Adam Schefter is reporting that 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is scheduled to interview with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. The 49ers arrived in Charlotte Friday evening, and will conduct their final meetings on Saturday. The interview would take place in Charlotte.
Saturday marks the last day that a team can conduct first-time interviews with assistants involved in the playoffs. If they do not conduct the interview now, they have to wait until the given team's season is over. If the 49ers were to advance to the Super Bowl, conducting this interview affords the Vikings the opportunity for a second interview during the bye week.
Roman previously interviewed for the Penn State job, but reports out of Happy Valley indicate they are set to announce now former Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin as their next head coach. This is reportedly the second time Roman has lost a job to Franklin, as Vanderbilt selected Franklin over Roman.
Earlier this week, Adam Caplan reported the Vikings had also requested an interview with defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. According to CSN Bay Area, that interview is also expected to happen later today. The Vikings have already interviewed Bengals DC Mike Zimmer, Cardinals DC Todd Bowles, and former Browns DC Ray Horton.
I know we want these guys fully focused on Sunday's Panthers game, but this is just one of the issues good teams have to deal with each year. They just need to go out Sunday and show what they can do for potential employers.
