Fans, Fans, and other STUFF

Wife and I found tickets to the Carolina game - great seats front row in the end zone. We were surrounded by Panther fans. One old man and his grandson sat behind us and asked if when Cam Newton might score if his grandson could move up with us to get a ball - apparently Newton gives balls to children. SURE! We thought this will generate good will and a nice afternoon. I'm an adopted son of the South and know MANNERS are extremely important - not matter what is at stake.

We were all talking light smack until... "Riverboat Ron" went for it on 4th down at the goal line. Fans were going nuts. I said in a normal speaking voice to the wife - "Looks like he's going for No Points" - and somehow every pair of ears heard me. When Cam failed, the crowd turned hostile. I don't know why they were angry with us - Cam failed!!! We didn't hoot and hollar. We may have snickered.... but hey!

We again allowed Little Jimmy to come front and center to see Cam fail again inside the 5. Not good. Shortly there after... when Vernon Davis scored on the footdrag/12 men in the huddle/Panther fans knew the game was over - play, the people surrounding us got ugly. Ole #7 didn't help matters by mocking Cam's Superman routine either. A majority of the other fans were bailing - you can see it in 4th quarter - but not the drunky drunks around us. They were getting madder with each play and wanted to vent their fury on us. I started for the aisle and was waiting for the wife to negotiate the foot ladden path and got more grief - "What are YOU waiting on? You're blocking the view." I didn't know why they were anxious to see their team lose - and said so. Fortunately, my wife and his wife intervened. We managed to exit unscathed, but it's not another fan's fault your team loses a game. What is so difficult in being hospitable?

This brings me to next weeks game.. how frightened are the Seahawks? Refusing to sell Niner fans tickets? Are you serious? This smacks of infantile paranoia. The sports shows repeatedly report how the Niner have failed in Seattle - X numbers of times by Y number of points. All true... so WHAT inspires fear on a magnitude that prompts them, (the Seattle Organization) to not sell tickets to Niner fans????? You can see the terror dripping in posts and hear the fear in the tortured, idiotic logic spouted by Seahawk radio callers. This will not be an easy game to win, but it is doable and the Cards revealed the blueprint in how to do it. Stay in the rush lanes, do not let Wilson outside (he can't see over the linemen) stop the run - score a few points = WIN. The past few games other teams have done this and Wilson's passing stats show it. Those same teams failed to control Lynch = and they lost. I predict the Niners are DUE to win in Seattle and this outcome will send the 12th man home humbled and grumpy. Oh effing well!

Lastly, Big Props to the Georgia Niners fan club who hooked us all up with a party at WIld WIngs and a Tailgate affair. Close to 1000 people at the tailgate and over 500 at the bar. Other than the pissy Carolina fans, it was a great experience.
