49ers depart Friday afternoon for Seattle, NFC Championship Game

Ronald Martinez

The 49ers are adjusting their travel plans as they prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. We break down what it means.

The San Francisco 49ers wrap up their week of practice Friday afternoon, starting at 1:50 p.m. After they wrap practice, head coach Jim Harbaugh will meet with the press at approximately 3:10 p.m., the locker room will then be open to the media, and the team will depart for Seattle at 4:45 p.m.

That last part is worth noting. Generally, the 49ers will travel on Saturday for their west coast games. It's a quick trip, and jet lag is not a concern. However, it seems the 49ers are content on sticking with what has worked for them the last couple weeks. Jim Harbaugh said some of the veterans approached him about doing this and he was amenable to it. The team will get up to Seattle early Friday evening, and have a full Saturday to settle in.

This 49ers team was already leading the NFL in travel miles before entering the playoffs. The trip to London put them over the top, but they would have already been among the top teams without the London trip. It's only fitting then that they have had to go through a gauntlet to get a return trip to the Super Bowl. They have had to travel great distances, but the matchups they've faced have only added to it. Going on the road in the Wild Card round is tough, but add the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field only adds to it. Traveling for the Divisional round is tough, but add in the physical Panthers front seven, and it's even more so. And we all know about traveling to Seattle.

The 49ers however seem to be fairly loose for this game. Or at least, Jim Harbaugh seems loose. He met with the media Friday afternoon and he smiled and laughed more than we usually see for that final game-week press conference. He laughed at some jokes, and had some funny comments.

The best part was an unprovoked comment about Colin Kaepernick's Beats by Dre commercial:

I'll try and add a link to video later today. It was some funny stuff.
