Golden Nuggets: Cold Weather? In Green Bay? In Winter? No Way

Tom Lynn

Thursday, December 2nd edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

How does one prepare for a cold weather football game? Jim Harbaugh doesn't know "I don’t know if there is a way. Is there a way to prepare for the cold weather?" I don't know coach, but I think the guys from the Big Bang Theory tried the indoor freezer at the Cheesecake Factory. The 49ers practiced yesterday in comfortable 60 degree temperature while the Packers practiced outside, in Wisconsin, in what I'm sure was a much much less enjoyable practice for them. Sunday in Green Bay is expected to hit nine degrees in a game where I will be happy to watch comfortably from my couch, under a blanket, with a fire going in the fireplace.

Conventional wisdom would dictate that a team like the 49ers built on defense and running the ball would fair better in these conditions than your typical air it out Packers. Though they do seem to like running the rock a little more with Eddie Lacy, averaging only four yards less per game on the ground than us this season. Clay Mathews has been ruled out of the game, and Carlos Rogers is hopeful he will be able to suit up. I am still pretty annoyed that our 12 wins have to travel to face their eight wins, but that's just the way the NFL is, I suppose we would be preaching division winners should get a home game if the shoe were on the other foot. To the links!
