The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers released their Thursday practice participation reports, and we have a slight, but notable change. While the Packers had all their injured players, except Clay Matthews, listed as limited, the 49ers added Eric Wright to their report.
Wright was listed as limited on Thursday due to a hamstring issue. He was not listed on Wednesday's report, so this would appear to be a new injury. Mindi Bach tweeted that she was told "he left practice limping slightly". There is no additional word at this point, but that is obviously not a good thing.
In other news, Carlos Rogers sat out Thursday's practice. That is two straight practices he has missed. Vic Fangio said Rogers was "going to give it a shot today", but either he ended up not doing so, or he tried and couldn't. As far as his recovery is concerned, socalisteph tweeted this out:
Recovery of mild hamstring strains can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks, a timetable the 49ers do not have. We have 3 days. I'm concerned.— So Cali Steph (@SoCaliSteph) January 3, 2014
Additionally, Rogers said what we all know, that bum hamstrings aren't suited for the extreme cold the 49ers will face on Sunday. With all that added together, it would be a bit of a surprise if he played against the Packers. It is possible he gets in a limited practice and tries it out on Sunday, but my expectation is that he ends up inactive.
If Rogers can't go, Wright becomes the nickel back. Of course, with Wright struggling through his own injury, that could get Perrish Cox into that nickel role pretty quickly. If Wright can't play, Cox would seemingly become the nickel, and either Darryl Morris or C.J. Spillman (or both) gets dime work. Whatever happens, it makes Sunday all the more interesting, not that we were looking for interesting!
