That was not the way it was supposed to go. Two years ago, the Niners marched into the NFC Championship game and lost. Last year, they take it a step further and lose in the Super Bowl. The Faithful pictured the team taking the last step and winning the Super Bowl. Unfortunately that was not to be the case. The team had played well until the 4th quarter where 3 turnovers doomed the team.
As we know, you can rarely win a road game when you lose the turnover battle. Colin made mistakes in Seattle, who always force him into mistakes. The 1st interception was horribly thrown right at Chancellor. The 2nd interception was almost an exact replica of the final play of the Super Bowl. Colin can’t make those mistakes against that team and expect to win. The defense played tremendous for much of the game and the Niner’s best defensive player made one of the best plays you will ever see. How Bowman held that ball all the way to the ground while his knee was being twisted is unbelievable. As well as the defense played, they gave up 2 huge plays. The Lynch TD run should have been stopped. Eric Reid completely overran the play and allowed Lynch to cut to open space. The other play occurred after Aldon jumped offside on 4th down. Wilson stepped back and launched a 35 yard TD pass to Kearse who outjumped Carlos Rogers. These are plays we aren’t accustomed the Niner defense allowing. Even the special teams made a mistake by allowing Doug Baldwin a 69 yard kickoff return that resulted in a field goal. This is the kickoff right after Kaepernick and the offense marched down the field resulting in Colin’s amazing jump throw TD. This happened to be the last of the Niner’s scores of the evening. Sure, the referees made some bad calls, but what game doesn’t. The Niners could have won it and didn’t make the plays necessary to accomplish it.
So ends another successful and disappointing season all at the same time. But with this team and coaching staff, we will be in the hunt again next year. We open our brand new stadium and guess what Super Bowl it is next year? Super Bowl 49! Who’s got it better than us? NOBODY!
