"The biggest thing with Tom is pass protection," Lattimore said. "That’s the biggest thing you got to know. If you can’t protect the quarterback, you can’t play."
OK, Lattimore just said what some here have always suspected. RBs (including LMJ) must be able to demonstrate that he can pass block before any consideration of playing.
We also think, that TEs have to be able to block before getting any game time. This may have been what was keeping Vance back most of the season.
My questions is...when we are lacking offensive weapons and/or when the offense is getting predictable/ineffective...are these firm requirements helping this team of holding the team back.
I'm a fan of the thinking that you adjust the system to play to the skillset of your personnel...playmakers are rare and I rather exploit those matchups, especially when the offense is staggering. I also think success be gets success. Let a player do what he is good at and let him build up that confidence. Add tools along the way...but the contact square peg into a round hole thing can be pretty frustrating.
If this s the system, then LMJ needs to be traded away. We are holding this kid back and missing out on some compensation as well.
