The 2014 Senior Bowl is officially a wrap, which means we now begin the road to the 2014 NFL Combine. Draft prospects begin arriving in Indianapolis on February 19, which is just over three weeks from now. We'll hear plenty of rumors and chatter before then, but the Combine is the next big opportunity for players. A cornerback could boost his draft stock with a phenomenal 40, or a wide receiver could sink his with a bad run through the Gauntlet.
As we get ready we'll continue to take a regular look at our mock draft database. We have 21 mock drafts included, and we'll get more added in as the weeks progress. If you have any suggestions for ways to improve the mock draft database, please let me know in the comments. Maybe you want some additional information, or maybe you want certain mocks included. Just let me know.
For now, three positions have sort of settled in as the picks of late. We have a surprisingly balanced approach thus far. Six mocks went with a wide receiver, six went with a defensive lineman and nine went with cornerback. I'm not surprised by wide receiver and cornerback, but the six defensive line projections surprised me a bit.
I'm going to do some inquiring into this, but I'm wondering what you all think? Are these mocks falling through the first 29 picks in a manner that just makes defensive line the best option at that point? Or do you think these mocks are just mis-reading the 49ers?
The most frequently mocked player right now is Notre Dame defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. His four mocks puts him one ahead of Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson. I don't put too much stock into the specific players mocked at this point. Plenty will change, and as we know, it only takes one team ahead of the 49ers liking that player enough to take him off the board. Positional analysis strikes me as more valuable in mocks, particularly at this early juncture.
Give our 49ers mock draft database a look when you get a minute!
