Where does Value Reside in This Draft?

In every draft, there is a varying mix of talent by position and by quality; sometimes a draft will be deep at the top and little else beyond that...or just the opposite. The key to a truly successful draft is understanding this mix, and drafting players that are in high supply at the right time - and drafting hard-to-come by positions at other times.

So what I have below is a matrix of 2014 NFL Draft prospects by position and by Big Board position. The Big Board I used was CBS Sports.com. The numerical figure in the cell is the draft value chart figure for each prospect -- think of it like a price menu.

So, based on this chart, we can see that the draft is deeeeeeep at Cornerback in rounds 3 through 5, but a little thin in the second round. On the other hand, safeties are hard to come by; WRs are deep this year as well and you should be able to land a good one in the first 50 picks. Based on this market analysis, here's what a mock should look like:

rd1. Safety

rd2a. WR

rd2b. trade back

rd3a (trade back). cornerback

rd3b. cornerback

rd3c. trade back

rd3comp. OG/C

rd4a (trade back). WR

rd4b. DE

This is just an example, but you see what I'm getting at.
