Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl Watch Thread

Tyler Smith

Tonight the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl are on. We give you some prospects to watch.

The bowl season is coming to a close, as tonight will feature the last two BCS bowls until the National Championship. Tonight on the schedule is the Cotton and Orange Bowls.

AT&T Cotton Bowl - No. 13 Oklahoma State vs. No. 8 Missouri (4:30 P.M. PT)

A pair of first round talents will be on display in the Cotton Bowl, and one the 49ers will have their eyes on this draft season.

Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert will be a first round selection in May, and has a chance to fall to the tail end of the first where the 49ers will be waiting for him. He fits the type of style the Niners defense plays. Physical, tough, hard hitting for a corner, Gilbert is an intriguing prospect. At 6'0" 200 lbs, he will be able to compete with strong receivers at the line in press coverage. He finished the season with six interceptions.

For Missouri, look for DE Michael Sam to have a big impact in the game. Sam was the SEC defensive player of the year and racked up 10.5 sacks this season, which lead the SEC.

Discover Orange Bowl - No. 12 Clemson vs. No. 7 Ohio State

Ohio State was oh so close to playing in the National Championship this year, having an undefeated season until the Big Ten championship game, where they lost to Michigan State. I wonder if Ohio State will suffer the same fate as Alabama last night. A team that was hoping to play in the big game, but had to settle for a lesser game and played flat. I'll go with the SEC team in this one to pull out the victory.

All eyes will be on Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins. He is a sure first round choice and for many reasons. Watkins is a very smart route runner who already has a good understanding of what coverages are being played against him. He reminds me of Roddy White, and I believe Watkins will have an impact year one for whoever drafts him.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd will look to boost his draft stock tonight. After having some struggles this season, Boyd appears to be a third round selection. But with a solid game tonight, he could get back into the second round.

For the Buckeyes, they have two early round prospects in RB Carlos Hyde and LB Ryan Shazier. Hyde may be the first running back selected in May, while Shazier received a second grade by the draft advisory board.
