49ers defeat Packers, yep, it was a good day

The 49ers defeated the Packers Sunday evening to advance to the divisional round. It wasn't pretty at times, but the team took care of business. All in all, it was a good day.

The San Francisco 49ers took care of business Sunday evening, winning a wild won over the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 23-20. The 49ers stumbled along the way, but they righted the ship and emerged victorious.

The 49ers will head home to begin preparations for their divisional round road trip to face the Carolina Panthers. That game presents its own set of challenges, and we'll have plenty more on that. For now though, we get to enjoy a hard-fought playoff victory. The 49ers were favorites heading into Lambeau, but going into that cold to face a Packers squad that had Aaron Rodgers back in the saddle gave them a significant test to open the playoffs.

Indeed, having the 49ers in the playoffs is a scary sight. The 49ers have a lot of work in front of them, and they have as tough a road as there is if they want to get to Super Bowl XLVIII. And yet, this team is as hot as anybody right now. They've now won seven straight games. They've won 12 of 14, with the two losses coming by a total of four points to the Panthers and Saints. This team is locked and loaded at the right time. And I think Jim Harbaugh realizes that:

Sunday afternoon also marked Phil Dawson's first ever playoff game. The 49ers have extensive playoff experience over the last three Harbaugh seasons, but every year someone joins the squad without the experience. Phil Dawson was a rock on Sunday, and it was fitting considering he was kicking what amounted to a rock on the field. He converted all three field goals, including a game-winner. His kicks were 22, 25 and 33 yards, and while that isn't much distance, when you're kicking a ball in the freezing cold, it's not a simple task. Anquan Boldin was the steal of the offseason, but Dawson has been a huge free agent addition.

On to Carolina for some unfinished business!
