Golden Nuggets: Not Our First Rodeo

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Monday, January 6, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Death, Taxes, TV singing competitions, and the 49ers rolling people seem to be the only certainties right about now, and I couldn't be happier. The 49ers won their seventh game in a row and the seventh since yours truly joined the team here at Niners Nation. So uh, I'll be accepting your thanks via the comment section, twitter, and email.

The 49ers beat the Packers for the 4th straight time yesterday in a game anticlimactically referred to as the freezer ice death bowl all week. It was certainly cold, but from where I was seated, on my couch with the heater turned on, the weather didn't seem to affect the game all that much. Colin Kaepernick was able to throw and run the ball effectively against the Pack, though he did leave a couple bad balls hanging with one of them actually being picked off. Still, he was able to consistently find Michael Crabtree and use his legs to get first downs. The 3rd and 8 play in the 4th quarter where he ran for the first effectively put the 49ers in FG range and allowed them to run the clock out.

This was the second game in a row that Kap 49ers led a game-sealing drive. This week's took the final 5:06 off the clock and was just really impressive. Kap seems to have found his groove since Crabtree's return, and It's really not that surprising. Earlier in the year, good defenses were able to contain both Boldin and Vernon Davis, but its really hard to take away three elite options. Add on the fact that the coaches seem more content to let Kap do his thing with his legs, and defenses really are forced to pick their poison.

Harbaugh said it several times in his post game presser, "This isn't our first time." Surprise! He's right, this is a battle-tested team that has won several huge games in the last three years. Far too often, people are surprised when we win. Really? The 49ers can't travel to GB in the winter and win a below-freezing game? Why not? This is an extremely adaptable team that can win in a number of different ways. I'm not surprised by anything they do. As frustrating as they can be letting inferior teams stick around, and the weekly play-clock issues, this is an elite team that has won seven in a row. The 49ers travel to Carolina next week in a revenge game for us. The Panthers are a better team than the Packers, but I would rather face the Panthers in Carolina than Aaron Rodgers in the frozen tundra most weeks. To the links!
