Fooch's Update: Interesting little update from Bruce Feldman:
#49ers asst Greg Roman already has interviewed for the #PennState vacancy this week, per source. Was an offsite meeting.

We heard yesterday that Roman stayed behind after the 49ers-Packers game. We speculated it was for an interview with the Vikings. Maybe it was actually for a Penn State interview.
_______
The crazy season just gets crazier. Two days after Greg Roman stayed behind following the 49ers win over the Packers for a head coach interview, the 49ers offensive coordinator is going to interview with Penn State, according to Jason LaCanfora.
Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin seemed to be high on the list for Penn State, but it appears Vanderbilt is pulling out all the stops to keep Franklin in Nashville. University of Miami coach Al Golden was also in the mix, but he appears to be off the radar at this point. Mike Munchak is also a reported candidate, with Greg Schiano slipping off the radar. There's the college football rumor mill in a nutshell for you.
Although 49ers fans have their share of issues with Roman, he has remained a hot target in coaching ranks. He interviewed with Penn State two years ago, but lost out to Bill O'Brien. Now, he is back in the mix in Happy Valley, while also reportedly in the mix with the Washington Fightin' Snyders and the Minnesota Vikings.
There is no word yet on when an interview will happen with Roman. I suspect Penn State would send people out to Santa Clara at some point this week, but we don't know for sure. I would be shocked if he traveled out to State College this week.
If Roman departs for any job, the 49ers will need to replace him as their offensive coordinator. I believe any departure would be after the playoffs wrap up, so that eases it somewhat. My guess is it would be an internal promotion, such as Geep Chryst, but it's hard to know for certain. We talk about the position coaches, but in reality we don't really know a whole lot about them. We know Geep Chryst is the quarterbacks coach, but what do we actually know about his involvement in the offense. I'm sure he is plenty involved, but what specifics do we really know?
