Golden Nuggets: Carlos Rogers Still Hurting; Greg Roman Still Sought After

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Thursday, January 9, 2013 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

What a game last weekend and what a game we can expect on Sunday. 49ers vs Panthers is the matchup everyone is talking about around the national media. I'm never the most confident of fans, but I've got a good feeling about this one. We've got reinforcements galore. Carolina's offense has been relatively stagnant for weeks. I don't see them scoring more than the 10 points they did last time. I'm pretty sure Kaepernick and the boys can top that, now that the arsenal is fully stocked. I am a bit worried about the 10am start, though.

49ers vs Panthers

Everyone brings up the fact that the 49ers passing game will be five times as good this time around with Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis back. We forget that Eric Reid and Ray McDonald both left the last game after limited playing time and Aldon Smith played only 12, mostly ineffective, snaps in his first action out of rehab. Our team will be greatly improved. | Key pieces in place for rematch with Panthers (Maiocco)

Injuries

How do people feel about our secondary without Carlos Rogers in it? They seemed to do OK against the Packers, but that can be partially attributed to the frozen tundra. | 49ers practice report: Carlos Rogers remains out (Gin)

Panthers Speak

Against the Panthers in Week 10, Colin Kaepernick had his worst game as a pro. He was completely stifled and passed for only 91 yards. Of course, Vernon Davis left with a concussion and Michael Crabtree had yet to return. Deffecting Assistants

There's a lot of talk about our assistant coaches getting jobs around the football world. Paul Wulff, who's job with the 49ers was never exactly clear, is leaving to be an offensive coordinator at South Florida. Greg Roman's name is flying around everywhere and even Vic Fangio is popping up here and there.
