Why Our Run Defense Failed vs Washington

RB Alfred Morris

What was the key for your success? What was making the run game click so well today?

"We know what type of defense they are. What kind of style they play. They have some injuries but they still have some really good players. It came down to the inside backers and making them over or under commit just to open up a gap. They changed it up after halftime by bringing the extra safety down in the box. It presented a new problem but it didn’t stop our run game. It was a successful day but we just need to continue to keep building and find a way to win."

Based on this quote from Morris after the game, our defensive looks are both too predictable and sensitive to being fooled.

At some level, that's always going to be the case...but Niners defensive success has always been based on stopping the run and this is problematic because another zone-run team is coming to town in SEA and giving up 100+ yards on the ground to Beast-mode has been a too common occurrence. What can Fangio do?
