In an announcement that should bring some fun times on February 17, Cartoon Network announced that Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton will co-host the 2014 Hall of Game Awards. The show will air on Cartoon Network on February 17 at 7 p.m.
This comes a month after the two teams squared off in the divisional round of the 2014 NFL playoffs. The 49ers got the win, but we also got to see Colin Kaepernick unveil his own Superman celebration. I think it's safe to say we'll get a joke or two about that when they are on stage.
Cam Newton was on NFL Network's NFL AM on Thursday, and he had a chance to have some fun with Kap's choice of celebration:
"He hurt my feelings, and I think so highly of Mr. Kaepernick," Newton said jocosely.
Newton said there "will" be a response to Kaepernick, when asked directly if he would answer the mock.
"We'll just have to wait and see," Newton said of what he had planned.
Apparently the writer of the article felt the need to roll out that English degree! I had actually never heard jocosely used before, but apparently it means anything from joking or jesting, to "in a cheerful or happy manner." I'm surprised Florio didn't try to play it off as some sort of serious rivalry thing!
The two quarterbacks are also in attendance at tonight's NFL Honors program. It is taping now, but will air on tape delay at 8 p.m. I'm sure Alec Baldwin (the host) will have some kind of Kap/Newton joke during the evening. Exciting times await!
Everybody to their seats, please. Kaptonite will be sitting in front of SuperCam tonight at the NFL Awards Ceremony. pic.twitter.com/zwhVE5XTCA
