The post-Superbowl blues are on with the annual lull in NFL activity until the amateur draft comes along. The NFL Draft has become quite the entertainment spectacle, so much so that Hollywood has even decided to make a movie about it. I will definitely watch the movie, but even more than that, I look forward to the actual Draft and all the young reinforcements Baalke and Co. will bring in. Hopefully we will have another impact player like Eric Reid was this past season.
The top headline in NFL news today is Missouri draft prospect Michael Sam openly admitting he is gay. I applaud Michael for being proud of who he is and wish him a fine NFL career. I suppose it made natural sense for 49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco to write about him from the perspective of the 49ers considering him as a potential draft pick (the post-Superbowl days being slow news days for most NFL teams). However, the Niners have excellent depth at the outside linebacker position with Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Dan Skuta and Corey Lemonier on the roster, so the Niners are probably not in the market for another one.

How does one go from becoming an unknown to a troll, to a viral sensation and finally a cause in a matter of a week? The Internet. No greater power to create instant fame is there than the internet (one caveat though is that Internet fame dissipates even faster than it is created). Ronnie Andrews, a.k.a. Niners Waldo began with just a small desire to show his loyal 49ers fandom to his schoolmates by walking into the Seahawks Superbowl parade dressed in Niners gear, has become a national interest story, touching the generous hearts of football fans (regardless of team) to help someone have a much better life. As of today, the donations to bring Ronnie to a 49ers game AND find a future home have exceeded $20,000 (more than 4x the intended goal). So I wish Ronnie the best in life, and that he'll find a great place and family to grow up in and come home to.
