Harbaugh vs Carroll

I am visiting Southern Cali for a few days from the East coast and my wife and I got tickets for the Jimmy Kimmel live for this past Tuesday. When I requested the tickets, only Gary Oldman was scheduled as a guest. You have no idea the anger that went through me when the day before the show I found out that Richard Sherman and Malcolm Smith were also now going to be guests. (I hate Sherman, think he is completely classless. A great player, probably the next Revis but saying he is the next Deion is premature. I have never seen a professional athlete be that inappropriate and directly disrespectful towards another player. Maybe I will give him the benefit of the doubt for the Erin Andrews interview since he was still hyped up, but to continue it in the post game interview an hour later.) I can't stand him, but I digress....

Anyway, I almost thought about not showing up but then said screw it. So I ended up going, wearing my SB 47 niners shirt (the only niners shirt I was traveling with). In retrospect, I wish I had bought a "mediocre" #15 jersey and worn that. As one would expect, there were large groups of Seattle fans around the studio (luckily none of them had tickets). I got a little crap from a couple fans but most of them didn't notice my shirt.

In the studio, watching Sherman and Smith made me cringe. But it was a somewhat entertaining interview. Sherman was pompous, but I would not expect anything less. One thing that did come up at the interview has been bugging me. He mentioned how PC partied with them after the SB and got drunk. To which Jimmy Kimmel asked if Sheman/smith can now use his (PCs) drunk actions against him next time he yells at them. To which they responded "he never gets mad at us".

This brings me to my point. In my opinion, Carroll is a douche. People call him a players coach but he acts like a smug prick (like the PC top hat post I have seen on this website). I respect his coaching but would not want him as my coach. Harbaugh on the other hand, is about as intense as they get. Unlike PC, you know he is being himself. This is who he is and who he has always been. Ever since his QB days. He has his temper tantrums and can be a ahole, but he is our coach. I don't mind constantly defending him to my friends that call him a nutcase, because there is no one in the league (except Belichick) that I would want as our coach other than him.

In recent history, I cannot remember any other "players coaches" being successful in NFL (Doc Rivers is the only person that comes to mind). Wade Phillips and Caldwell were zombies on the sideline. Carroll got voted as the coach most NFL players would want to play for, as opposed to #8 I think for Harbaugh. But do you think Harbaugh could take a page from this? Don't you think their likability will slight affect the teams ability to get free agents or negotiate contracts (I know money usually is the # 1,2, and 3 affecting these decisions). Part of me is convinced the reason we never landed Peyton a couple years ago because there is no way him and Harbaugh would have been able to control the same team.

What do you think? Would it do Harbaugh and the 49ers some good for him to take a small (very small) page out of PCs book and become a likable coach to the public/rest of the NFL. I am assuming most the players on the team like and respect him, but what I saw at the Sherman/Smith interview was slightly different. Slightly desirable.....
