Well, that was a letdown. The Seattle Seahawks absolutely dominated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, destroying them by a final score of 43-8. The Seahawks had a chance at breaking the 49ers record for biggest Super Bowl victory, but they benched their starters late, happy with what they had.
It was tough seeing the Seahawks beat the 49ers and then destroy the Broncos, but congratulations are in order for the new Super Bowl champions. They took care of business, and had their way with the Broncos. They'll get the offseason to enjoy this, and then it will be back to business with the 2014 regular season 7 1/2 months away.
The close of the Super Bowl means it's time to hit the re-set button and begin the march to Super Bowl XLIX. The 49ers enter the offseason with 7/1 odds to claim next year's Super Bowl. February odds mean next to nothing, but we know the 49ers will be among the teams in the discussion for next year's Super Bowl. This 49ers team is incredibly talented, but also has some questions to address this offseason. They'll need to make some smart moves across the roster, but they have as good a chance as anybody at taking home the Lombardi Trophy next season.
The Seahawks will get their night to enjoy this, and rightfully so, but we'll see them again in the fall. The 49ers and Seahawks will be the co-favorites in the NFC, and rightfully so. They are the deepest teams in the conference, and we very well could see another NFC title game between the two squads. Maybe this time the 49ers can secure home field and take care of business.
We'll have plenty to keep you busy this offseason. We'll have free agency, draft and preview content. For now though, we can finally really move past the NFC title game loss. Time to again begin the march to Lombardi No. 6.
