Per Adam Schefter, the Seahawks will release former Pro-Bowl receiver Sidney Rice. Rice, 27, has suffered a multitude of injuries in his 7-year career, including a season-ending ACL tear in week 9 of 2013. In 8 games, he recorded just 15 catches for 231 yards and 3 touchdowns. This move was likely made due to Rice's hefty 7.3 million price tag, space that the Seahawks need in order to re-sign key free agents such as Michael Bennett and Golden Tate.
Given their lack of receiving threats outside of Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, the 49ers might show interest, depending on the condition of Rice's knee. However, they're low on cap space and signing Rice might leave them without the room needed to re-sign upcoming free agents such as Aldon Smith and Colin Kaepernick, so unless it's on a relatively cheap deal, the Niners will most likely pass.
