The San Francisco 49ers and Anquan Boldin appear to be moving closer to a new contract. Adam Schefter was the first to report on this, and Ian Rapoport followed up with a similar report based on two sources.
This is not a particularly surprising development. The 49ers got huge production from Boldin, and Boldin has seemed happy during his time in San Francisco. He's made comments and tweets about this "first year" in San Francisco. While those could have just been throw-away comments, I don't see why Boldin wouldn't want to stick with San Francisco. They're a team built to win a championship, and the Bay Area is a great location. He's a Florida guy, so there is the distance, but given the time he spent in Arizona, I don't see how that would really be a problem.
Ideally this deal will get done in the next week or two, before the free agency "tampering period" opens up. I don't think Boldin is going anywhere, but the longer it takes, the more room for error. I'm heading to Las Vegas on Wednesday. Consider me in the camp wanting a deal done before then! Although, I suppose with airplane wifi, a Wednesday deal wouldn't be the end of the world!
