Everything the 49ers do this offseason should be geared towards beating those hated rivals to the North. The areas where the Niners are weakest, (WR and CB), must improve. San Francisco must find a way to make plays against their secondary.
First pick in the draft absolutely has to be a WR! Baalke is likely dtalking with teams and putting together potential packages to trade up into the middle of the 1st round like last year (see: Reid, Eric). This year has a deep WR class and somebody to match Sherman's size and athletic ability would be most appreciated. The first player that comes to mind for me is Mike Evans of Texas A&M. I see him as Michael Floyd type, who had a great year. Word is that Boldin and the 49ers are close to a deal, which is nice. With him and Crabtree, you have two reliable WRs. Then comes Patton who finished the season strong, and if you throw Evans into the mix, it becomes dangerous. Roman likes to rotate the WRs to best fit their different strengths. A player like Evans with his enormous size, is essentially a Jon Baldwin, but hopefully better.
At CB, which is arguably an equal need to WR (Doesn't this seem to be the annual draft request of 49er fans?), i believe it makes more sense to go after a solid veteran like Vontae Davis. I think everybody is right in wanting old man Rogers gone. If he takes a paycut, great, but if not, let him walk. Its funny how quickly guys like himself and Nnamdi Asomugha can go from great to sub-par.
Kilgore or Looney replaces Goodwin - upgrade in my mind.
Kaepernick with another year under his belt, only going to improve.
