Mike Mayock releases position rankings as Pro Days come to a close

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

NFL Network's Mike Mayock posted his latest NFL Draft position rankings. We take a look at how they've changed, and how his cornerback rankings compare with other "experts".

We are officially into April (watch out for April Fools' jokes!), and NFL Network's Mike Mayock released his latest prospect rankings. These come as Pro Days are starting to wrap up. There are still 16 schools left to go, including some big ones. LSU, Miami (Fl), Tennessee, Washington and Georgia are among the remaining schools still to perform.

There has not been a whole lot of change in the rankings, which really should be the case. Pro Day performances are going to get plenty of chatter with the media, with people talking about risers and fallers. And yet, if you have been watching plenty of film, and tracking players all year long, their performance on a single day in shorts and t-shirt (or pads in the case of Johnny Manziel) really should have no bearing on rankings.

I suppose if somebody absolutely tanks their performance, maybe it's worth questioning things. It is sort of like a cover letter, to some extent. I don't think a cover letter is going to get you a job, but it sure can cost you the chance at an interview. A strong Pro Day might be worth taking a second look at film, but if it gets you a job, there might be something wrong with the process.

The most notable change for our purposes is Kyle Fuller swapping places with Justin Gilbert at the No. 2 position. For comparison's sake, Mel KiperTodd McShay and CBS Sports all have Gilbert No. 1 and Dennard No. 2. It's interesting to note that SB Nation's Dan Kadar has Verrett No. 1, then Dennard, Roby, Gilbert, Fuller. Later today, I'll get a poll started so we can put together our own cornerback rankings. I'm curious to see what the consensus here ends up showing.
