Gil Brandt of NFL.com is probably the most plugged in draft analyst in the country. He has been scouting for longer than most of us have been alive. He still travels to most of the top pro days and hobnobs with all the team personel there. Plus he has responsibility for the selection of prospects for the Green Room, so he has all the rescources of the league itself, and the co-operation of individual teams to ensure that he gets the most likely first round candidates. Assuming the team does not trade, lets look at who is likely to be on the board in the area of their top three picks. Gil actually lists over 60 players as part of his "Top Fifty" so that jives nicely with the 9ers selecting #30, #56, and #61. #30 - Gil has three corners ranked in the 30s, Darqueze Dennard, Bradley Roby, and Jason Verrett. Ample reason not to bother trading up in the draft and leaving open the possibility of a short tradeback for a team wanting to jump back into the end of the first round for a quarterback. #39 ranked Jason Verrett sits at the slot where QB needy Jacksoniville Jaguars pick in round two. #56 and #61 - We're into Gil's honorable mentions now. Some who jumped out to me as being of interest to the 9ers would by Cyrus Kouandjio, the huge (and very young) Ol who is raw and has some injury concerns. Classic "stash" type of player. I think he's still just 20. Louchez Puriefoy, Aaron Colvin, and Marcus Roberson, threee more corners on Gil's list in the early to mid 50s. Jackson Jeffcoat DE/OLB early 60s.
