2014 NN community mock draft: With the 7th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, courtesy of user TopFlightSecurity.

We're back for the seventh pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the seventh pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, TopFlightSecurity and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jake Matthews, offensive tackle, Texas A&M. Here is a quick rundown of the alternates he considered. Some of the alternates he considered included Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr, and Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert.

Here are his thoughts on the pick:

This pick was simple the way this mock has turned out; it was going to be Mack or this young stud. The reason I did not go the QB route is I just don't see Johnny fitting the mold here. I feel they will pick one up in the later rounds and make do with the guys they have for now. Tedford has a history of working with different types of quarterbacks so that should help. This pick allows them to start Blood line part deux off slow on the right side and in time have him take over the left. Current left tackle Collins is not a picture of health nor has he started more than 7 games in a season so having a guy who can work all over the line will be a plus.

Main focus in the real draft  and the second round of this mock for Tampa has to be pass rush. If I were the GM I would make sure that one of the drafts top pass rushers found a way on to this team. That is truly this team's main weakness on the defensive side of the ball. They have been sub par with sacks for the past three years ranking 32nd in 2011, 30th in 2012 and 24th in 2013. We all know that a rotational sack master in the 4-3 work best with Johnson, Bowers, McCoy and Clayborn. Another outside guy would go nice and help them turn things around.

Trevor Woods: The pick of Matthews is a safe pick and will stabilize the Bucs offensive line some, but I'd like to see what new offensive coordinator and former Cal head coach Jeff Tedford could do with Manziel. Tedford coached Aaron Rodgers in college and although he isn't at the Jim Harbaugh level of quarterback guru, he is a good evaluator of the position. The new regime is not committed to Mike Glennon and if Manziel falls this far in the draft, I see the Bucs drafting him.

Nick Chiamardas: As TopFlight pointed out, the way this mock has played out, the Bucs choice seems rather easy. After Matthews returned to school last season, it was widely believed to be a candidate for the number one overall pick this year. With few teams in the top 5 having a real need at LT, Matthews could end up anywhere between pick five and 15. The Bucs could look at a QB with this pick as both Manziel and Bortles are left on the board. TE Eric Ebron would also be an nice fit for the Bucs. I like the Matthews pick and he should contribute right away at either LT or RT for the Bucs.
