2014 NN community mock draft: With the 13th pick, the St. Louis Rams select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the St. Louis Rams, courtesy of user El Shorts.

We're back for the 13th pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 13th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, El Shorts and the St. Louis Rams select Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama. Some of the alternates he considered included DT Aaron Donald, FS Calvin Pryor, and WR Kelvin Benjamin. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

I admit that I didn't do as much research as the 2nd overall pick, but the general consensus of my poll and mock drafts say that Clinton-Dix should go to the Rams at 13th overall. Having three main needs in OL, FS, and WR, I have already addressed the need of an offensive lineman with the pick of Greg Robinson from Auburn with the 2nd overall pick. I believe that WR could truly be picked at 13th overall as well, but with Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans gone, it seems clear that the best player at a position of need is obvious.

Ha-Ha Clinton Dix has been ranked one of the best safeties in the draft, and right now according to the St Louis Rams depth chart, Rodney McLeod is listed as the starting free safety. Ha-Ha has been reported to be "quick to read and react", and "Has speed and flexibility to match up with slot receivers or tight ends." I think that he'll be an excellent safety in the secondary to help solidify the backend of their young strong defense.

Trevor Woods: Sometimes you look at a depth chart, and the draft selection becomes oh so obvious. The Rams desperately need a safety, and in this spot they have the choice of the top two in Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor. Personally, I think Pryor has more upside and I like his film more. Is it against community-mock draft rules for each NFC West rival to draft a punter or kicker? The Rams already had a pick in this round, they definitely should bring in some competition for Greg "The Leg".

Nick Chiamardas: This is the second straight year where most believe the Rams will take the top safety in the draft (last season they were linked to Kenny Vaccaro). Having addressed the need at tackle with the second overall pick the Rams figure to go safety or wide receiver with their second first round pick. With the top WRs off the board, I like take Clinton-Dix at 13 rather then perhaps slightly reaching on the second tier WRs like Odell Beckham, Jr., Brandin Cooks, and Marqise Lee. Clinton-Dix will give the Rams two young (T.J. McDonald was a third-round, rookie starter in 2013) back end players that can really take advantage of a front seven that really puts pressure on opposing QBs. While I'm not as high on him as most, I do think Clinton-Dix can be very successful in the right situation where he's allowed to essentially play center field. The Rams could provide that sort of fit.
