2014 NN community mock draft: With the 26th pick, the Cleveland Browns select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the Cleveland Browns, courtesy of user Boss Clifford.

We're back for the 26th pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 26th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, CraigRED&GOLD and the Cleveland Browns select Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State. He also considered quarterback Zach Mettenberger, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

Easy choice here. Carr, whose stock had been steadily rising in past weeks, may be a top 2 quarterback on some boards. With the strongest arm in the draft and underrated athleticism, he comes with experience in a pro-style (more or less) offense and lit up defenses all year, showing vast improvement since last year. He still must show he can improve footwork and pocket presence, which most notably went awry in his bowl game against USC, and his lower level of competition didn't exaggerate his abilities. He will fit well into Kyle Shanahan's offense and with Cameron, Watkins, and Gordon, has a young corps of weapons at his disposal.

Trevor Woods: This is the best choice the Browns can make here. Although Brian Hoyer showed promise when he was the starter last season, it wouldn't be wise to go into the year with him as the bonafide starter. Hoyer vs. Carr would be a good training camp battle that would push both players and bring a mentality of competition between players to this new Browns regime. Another option here could be Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde. Although the Browns signed Ben Tate, he has durability concerns and Hyde would give the Browns a good one-two punch at the position.

Nick Chiamardas: I love the decision to wait on a QB. With the way the top half of this mock went, the Browns may have even been able to wait until the second round to secure Carr. Regardless, the word is the Browns really like Carr. Taking a QB here would likely limit the pressure to save a franchise like a QB selected fourth overall would have faced. Plus, the Browns want to see what Brian Hoyer can do so Carr will likely be able to sit and learn for a few months (unless of course he beats Hoyer out in training camp).
