In the beginning I thought the 49ers were going to draft another Safety because they let go of Donte Whitner. However, the 49ers signed Antoine Bethea (pardon me if I spelled it incorrectly). I was reading about the slot receiver stats the other day and I kind of backed away from my draft crush of Brandin Cooks. I don't remember how it came up but I started looking at Mike Evans. Let me start off with his measurables.
9 5/8 hands
35 1/8 arm length..... then i stopped.
Jesus Mary and Joseph. Calvin Johnson has long arms and his are 33 3/8. Josh Gordon has super long arms and his are 34s! 35s!!! Aldon Smith arms are 35 3/8ths. His arms are almost as long as Aldon Smiths...OMG! His best attributes are..
Tall, big bodied receiver that has decent speed and always makes tough catches over the middle. I wish we could run more slant passes that would make the game easier for Colin but we don't necessarily have the weapons on the roster to do so AANNNDD we don't have a red zone target. As much as I love the fade pass that we keep screwing up in the heart of the playoffs...lets be real. Colin can't throw the fade pass. Just get the guy a red zone target that can go up and get the football. I think the part that helps it all makes sense are (1) he played with a mobile QB so hes accustomed to running a scramble drill. Johnny Football always looked for Evans when the pocket broke down and (2) Hes a physical receiver that always beats press coverage. Seattle runs press (damn near bump and run) with their secondary. Every team tries to press on Mike Evans but his arm length is too long for anyone to really get into his body. I'm not changing my draft but I am changing my first round pick. I will personally nickname him a 35er. If he becomes a 49er I won't call him a 9er I'll call his a 35er for those long 35" arms. Questions? Comments? Concerns?
