Many of us, probably most, would feel like the season is lost if Kaepernick goes down this year, but I disagree. I think that if Kap did go down, we would revert to the conservative, run-heavy offense we had in 2011. Run, punt, a little bit of play action, lean on your defense.
Harbaugh would get Gabbert up to 'game manager' level of competence and would be fine. he's got a good arm and his biggest problem is his total lack of confidence when there's any pressure. that can be fixed.
And no team is uniquely equipped to deal with such a loss as the Niners with Gore, Lattimore, Hyde, Hunter, and James (if he's not traded).
