I heard a quote from kings goalie quick (save the kings hatred and hear me out). It went like this
---Quick: "When you get to something like this, it’s not about statistics – it’s not about statistics any time of the year to be honest – but I think those are just kind of something that people that don’t really know the game, it gives them something to judge off of."
And I think a lot of this applies to Kap. So often people will just watch some espn highlights and look at the final stat line and say oh Kap sucks blah blah blah. Sure he had some not so great games but I think if you look at the games I consider Kap played poorly in there were a lot of things to consider.
@ Seahawks week 2: One of the best passing defenses in the league (Sketchy bending of defensive holding/PI rules considered) and missing his best WR. His best WR was giving piggy back rides all game and his WR 2 and 3 are not even on the team or contributing to other teams right now. Run game was basically not existent, and the OL played pretty horrible altogether.
Vs. Panthers: Missing WR1 and basically his second best receiver and only deep threat in VD. Running game was effective at times. Defensive line was in the backfield almost instantaneously. Great Defense
@ Saints: Again missing WR1 and I believe TE1. OL didn't have a great game. Very Good defense.
There's not too many QBs in the league I think would have given the 9ers a chance to win in those situations or any team for that matter. There were a lot of games where he didn't throw up a lot of numbers but the team still blew out teams and he didn't need to light up the stat sheet. Jim Harbaugh will always be the type that believes if he can beat the team running 70% of the time, then there is no need to put the ball in the air. But even in those games, Kap still played well, made some great throws and gave us a chance to win. When people want to see stats and don't really watch the game, you get things like RG3 winning the hesiman over Andrew Luck. When it was clear that Andrew Luck was the best QB in football maybe ever but RG3 had the stats... a lot of those stats being thrown to wide receivers wide open for 80 yard TDs due to tricky offensive schemes causing blown coverages.
I think Kap is on his way to becoming one of the best in the league. When the likes of Brees, Manning, and Brady decide to leave, we're going to have Luck, Kap and Newton. Now if Kap does poorly this season then I will rethink what I have been saying, but with how well he played with Q and a less than 100% crabtree, I feel pretty comfortable with what he will do this season. It could be Wilson as well but I haven't decided if he's legit or not but I think if they keep beast mode for awhile he will continue to play well.
I think we can all be happy that Kap is on our side. I know some GB fans and they pretty much fear every time they play the 9ers.
