The San Francisco 49ers hit the practice field later today, but before that, head coach Jim Harbaugh met with the media. It was a lot of the usual general comments, but he did provide some injury updates. There are no significant injuries of note, but it was nice to get some information on PUP/NFI guys.
Bruce Ellington/Marcus Martin: Jim Harbaugh said both sustained ankle injuries away from the 49ers facility. He does not believe either is serious, and both should be back within a matter of days.
Marcus Lattimore: He is listed on the NFI list due to a combination of his knee recovery and a hamstring injury. Lattimore suffered the hamstring injury during the offseason workout program as he was returning from the knee injury. I'm guessing the 49ers got the NFI designation because of the knee, since it is connected to his college injury. The doctors are simply being cautious for now, so we'll see how long that lasts.
Garrett Celek: Some back stiffness has slowed Celek. The 49ers put him through an MRI, and are awaiting the results from that.
NaVorro Bowman: He has been running, and will now start to get some cutting in as he moves into the next phase of his rehab.
The 49ers first preseason game is not until August 7, so there is no huge rush to get guys back on the field. We don't want this to drag on too long, but for these first days, it makes sense to take their time.
The media will likely conduct some player availability before today's 2:30 p.m. practice. We'll have an open thread for that, but in the meantime, here is our 49ers media Twitter list.
