The San Francisco 49ers head back to the field for their fifth day of practice, after having Monday off. The return comes as they have lost some players to injury, but also as they get some players back. The 49ers are going with an early 10 a.m. practice session, so I figured for this open thread we'd take a look at some of the injury situations. As always, I've embedded the 49ers media Twitter list down at the bottom.
Kendall Hunter will not practice due to his ACL tear, while LaMichael James will not practice due to his dislocated elbow. Hunter is out for the year, while James is expected to miss approximately a month.
Bruce Ellington, Marcus Martin, and Aaron Lynch have all been activated from the NFI and PUP lists. The three have no taken part in padded practices, but by removing them from the injured lists, the 49ers are allowed to include them in walk-through practices. When on the NFI or PUP list, you basically can do nothing on the practice field, even something as simple as a walkthrough. It would not surprise me if one or more of them was back in regular action on the practice field as soon as today.
Anthony Davis and Justin Smith continue to rehab offseason shoulder surgery. The 49ers did not place them on the PUP list because as mentioned above, it would prevent them from taking part in the daily walkthroughs. The 49ers expect both to be ready for the season, so they did not feel it necessary to preserve the Reserve/PUP option for the regular season.
Tramaine Brock and Chris Culliver both had short days on Sunday, with reports that Brock had a tender ankle. Both have been full participants thus far, so a shorter day followed by the day off probably was not the worst thing in the world.
The rest of the injured lists are as follows. None will practice:
Physically Unable To Perform
LB NaVorro Bowman (knee)
NT Ian Williams (lower leg)
TE Garrett Celek (back)
Kaleb Ramsey (Unknown)
Non-Football Injury
RB Marcus Lattimore (knee/hamstring)
FB Trey Millard (knee)
CB Keith Reaser (knee)
G Brandon Thomas (knee)
