Matt Barrows is reporting the San Francisco 49ers are looking for some serious compensation if they are going to trade offensive lineman Alex Boone. According to Barrows, one source said the 49ers were looking for a first or second round pick, while another source said the team would prefer not to trade him, and would need to be blown away by an offer.
There has been some chatter that teams might be interested in doing a deal for Boone, but none of the reports indicated much movement had been made. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been mentioned as a team that might be interested, but not necessarily that they are actively pursuing a deal.
This kind of information could potentially have been leaked to put some pressure on Boone. This would indicate the 49ers are unlikely to deal him, so he better show up at some point. He needs to show up by late in the season to get the credited season on his contract (I believe it's Week 11 or 12, but I'm still confirming).
Given that he is signed through the 2015 season, one has to wonder if he will report late in the season, and then go through this nonsense again next season. Or do we get some kind of resolution before Week 1 of the regular season? I honestly have no idea how this resolves itself.
