Some Off The Charts Final Roster Ideas

Okay, so we're down the final roster cuts. Let me preface this post by saying, I have no belief whatsoever that the Niners Front Office will do anything I am 'predicting' here. To me, this is a play on the extreme.

1. Harbaugh is talking like he wants to keep both JJ and Gabbert. The truth is that he, frankly, has to keep Gabbert. There is honestly nothing but cap hell in releasing him. But I think his statements are an indication that he thinks JJ is better and he wants to keep them both. And may have to.

2. The Boone issue is getting serious...well, serious-er. But the Niners have an alternative. They could essentially kick Boone in the groin by offering an extension to Iupati. With Martin, Thomas and Looney sitting in the wings, that would basically tell Boone to go find another job. They won't do it, but it would interesting if they did.

3. At WR, we have a very intriguing situation. Lloyd is looking pretty good, but Johnson is not. Many have suggested that Johnson was traded for the purpose of protecting against not being able to extend Crabtree. With Kap and Johnson not connecting yet, could the Niners try to trade him and use his money to extend Crabtree? Maybe. I think they could. They used a 4th round pick next year to get Johnson. But recovered that pick in another draft day trade. So, honestly, anything they get for Johnson is icing. Lloyd and Ellington and the General could be the enough. This would also allow them to keep Osgood as a sixth receiver and ST stud.

4. At Running Back, with Lattimore sitting on NFI...and no real idea of when he'll be ready, if ever, the last RB roster spot is down to Smith and Winston. Both did pretty well in the pre-season. But, frankly, I like Winston. He has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Which I can see him doing that on ST and as our back up's back up at RB. I just like the way plays the game a little better than I like Smith.

5. Our outside linebacker situation is really interesting. We have some serious talent there...Brooks, Aldon, Lemonier, Skuta, Lynch and even Thomas. There's a lot of people who'd like to see if Thomas can make it to the PS. I think that's possible. But to be crazy, I'm going to suggest that Thomas is much like Skuta...only cheaper. I think they pocket the cap money and release Skuta or try to trade him..and keep Thomas. The one glitch to this is the 9 week suspension of Aldon. Do the Niners want to leave his replacement to a second year player or a rookie? Probably not...but this is my crazy fanpost and I get to be as crazy as I want.

6. Inside Linebacker is the next crazy situation. We have some uber-talent there with Bowman and Willis. But obviously Bowman is out for awhile. The experience of Wilhoite will land him the starting position...but Borland and Moody will also make this team. I don't, however, think all three remain after Bowman returns. Being that, at that point, the position doesn't, any longer, require Wilhoite's experience, I think they will try to sneak Moody onto the PS and Wilhoite is gone next year.

7. Cornerback is another situation. Some have suggested that because Cox didn't play yesterday against Houston that he's in no matter what. I disagree. I think they didn't play him because they know what he's capable of. They wanted to see the other three guys...Morris, Cook and Acker. Many have suggested that we can only keep two of those three. I think, in my wild fanpost mind, that we keep all three and dump Dahl. My reasoning...Dahl played very poorly during pre-season. Ward can play Bethea's back up. And Cook and Cox seem quite capable of taking Ward's place in the slot.

Okay...be nice with the comments...remember, I'm being obscenely daring and not at all like the niners' fo ever behave.
