NBC Bay Area is reporting San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald has been arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Damian Trujillo is reporting the alleged victim was pregnant. According to Matt Maiocco, McDonald was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, and no bail was allowed. There is no word yet on when he will be released from jail.
This incident comes mere days after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced a new policy that includes increased discipline for domestic violence and sexual assault crimes. A first offense will result in a 6-game suspension, and a second offense will result in a life-time ban from the NFL. Roger Goodell's letter to the owners does not specify what is required for the imposition of the 6-game suspension. My guess is there must disposition of the case. If that's the case, it may be a while before any suspension is handed down.
You all may recall Jim Harbaugh's previous comments a couple years back regarding giving players second chances. Harbaugh said that if you laid your hands on a woman there was no second chance. We don't know enough details to say anything about this case, but if the allegations prove true, Ray McDonald may not be a 49er for much longer.
