The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the New York Giants this weekend, and it is no surprise they are a sizable underdog. The line opened shortly after the 49ers Week 4 loss, and the 49ers have been installed as touchdown underdogs. The line has climbed to 7.5-points at some sportsbooks, but is primarily at 7.
The Giants enter the game on a two-game winning streak after opening the season 0-2. After losses to Atlanta and Dallas, the Giants have beaten Washington and Buffalo. They benefited this past weekend from a Bills squad that is committing penalties at a record rate. Nonetheless, I think the Giants offense is really starting to come together. They've got a lot of weapons, and while the offensive line has some questions, the offense is generally doing a good job.
After the last few weeks, it is tempting to start fading the 49ers on a weekly basis. But they still seem like a team that will come out of nowhere and get a cover every so often. I think this Giants team could put up a lot of points on the 49ers, but really this comes down to whether or not the 49ers offense can do enough to hold up its end of the bargain. I could see them surprising us some weeks, but it is also possible this offense as it is currently set up is broken. And so, for now I am leaning toward not touching any 49ers games when it comes to wagering.
