The 2016 Pro Bowl roster selection show is set to take place at 5:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday. The show will be broadcast on the NFL Network, at which point the league will announce the full roster of Pro Bowl players. On January 27, Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice will serve as NFL Legends Captains to determine the teams for the league's all star game. The game takes place on January 31, 2016, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The San Francisco 49ers will not have much representation on the team, but odds are pretty good NaVorro Bowman will be among the players getting a potential trip to Hawaii. Bowman finished third among inside linebackers in the fan vote, finishing less than 1,000 votes behind Clay Matthews. The fan vote counts for 1/3 of the final tally, with players and coaches also voting.
I've heard some rumblings that NaVorro Bowman finished strong in the player/coach vote, but we'll find out for certain at 5 p.m. He is currently tied for the NFL lead in tackles, and making a comeback from a devastating knee injury. He's got the story that likely got plenty of player and coach votes, and I would be surprised if he was not included in Tuesday's announcement.
If he does in fact get the nod, it will be interesting to see if he actually chooses to play in the game. Bowman has been selected for two Pro Bowls. He did not participate in the 2013 Pro Bowl because of the 49ers Super Bowl appearance, and he did not appear in the 2014 Pro Bowl due to his knee injury. He is wrapping up his first season back from that injury, and while he is having a really good year, there are times you can kind of see the wear and tear. My guess is he ends up backing out of any selection for the game.
