A NFL.com article talked about the possible candidates that could be in contention for the comeback player award this upcoming season. It's been a hard award to gauge because the award doesn't specify if a comeback season is from a bad season or a season missed due to injury. The author put 2 Niners players in the top 10 to have a comeback season. One is from an injury and the other is from a subpar season.
NaVorro Bowman was chosen as #5 on the list. Coming back from his knee injury, he will finally see the field this season. If he plays the way he played before his injury, he will definitely be a contender for the Comeback Player of the Year, if not the Defensive Player of the Year award. He was the top linebacker in the league. He helped form the best linebacking corp in the NFL. His talent and ability to read the game are tops in the league. He was the best player on the defense before his injury and he can definitely be the best player when he returns.
Colin Kaepernick was chosen at #9. He had a subpar season last year. With the talent he possesses, we should expect him to have a rebound season, but it would have to be a massive season for Kap to get a Comeback Player award. The award seems to go to players that actually miss a season rather than players that had bad seasons. It is highly unlikely that Kap would have a shot of winning this award. But the talent and playmaking ability he has could make him an interesting pick.
