Congrats are in order to the United States Women's National Team for their World Cup victory on Sunday. They beat Japan 5-2 in the finals, having put up a ridiculous four goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. Carli Lloyd dominated the game, putting up a hat trick in those first 16 minutes. Lloyd was also awarded the Golden Ball as the player of the tournament.
Lloyd's performance in the finals is hard to compare given how dominant she was early on. In San Francisco 49ers history, we might compare it to Steve Young's dominant performance in Super Bowl XXIX. Young had six touchdowns on the game, including two in the first 4:55 of the game. He connected with Jerry Rice on a 44-yard touchdown at 1:24, and then connected with Ricky Watters on a 51-yard touchdown pass at the 4:55 mark. It's not quite apples to apples, but it's a fun comparison in sports dominance.
Members of the current 49ers reacted to the victory. Here's a collection of their many tweets. You can keep an eye on all player tweets at this Twitter list I created.
