The NFL trade deadline has officially come and gone, and the San Francisco 49ers did not make any moves. Ed Werder reported on ESPN shortly before the deadline that the 49ers were looking for a third round pick for wide receiver Torrey Smith, while the Philadelphia Eagles were looking to give up a fifth round pick. But nothing happened. There had also been some rumblings the team was also shopping left tackle Joe Staley, but nothing more specific ever came of that.
Smith told the media shortly before the trade deadline that the team had been transparent with him about trade discussions. However, he said at the time that he would be shocked if anything happened in the 15 minutes then remaining before the trade deadline. Smith also offered up this bit of honesty:
Torrey Smith on trade rumors: "The selfish side of me thinks a change of scenery would be good. But I'm a 49er. Im going to play my ass off"

Smith will remain under contract to the 49ers through the 2019 season. Staley will also remain under contract to the 49ers through the 2019 season. And so, the 49ers head into the second half of the season with the same 53-man roster they had coming out of Week 7. We’ll see what they can do with that roster.
