I have been one of the people that have been quick to dismiss Gerald Hodges as one of the players we need to replace during the offseason but a closer look says something entirely different. Pro Football Focus has him as the sixteenth best inside linebacker against the run this year and the twenty fourth best inside linebacker overall. He is not great against the pass but we have other inside linebackers and sub packages to take care of that on passing downs.
Hodges only played fourteen snaps over a three game period and normally does not play on passing downs but he still has 53 tackles so far this season. I still do not see him being a starter in the future but, with so many holes to fill, perhaps we should give him a contract for at least another season?
Here is a couple of other things to think about. Will Ian Williams be returning to the team in the next week or two? Was last game the start of something good with Rod Streeter?
