2016 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Michael Thomas

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Thomas is a fast, go-to target wide receiver out of Ohio State University. Thomas is 6'3 and weighs in at 213 pounds. Thomas was redshirted by coaches for struggling with consistency and academics. One returned, Thomas was a favorable target his sophomore year and recorded 54 receptions for 799 yards. His final year at OSU, he recorded 78 receptions for 756 yards. Overall, Thomas put up nice numbers as a Buckeye and can possibly fit in well in Chip's offensive system. Michael Thomas is projected mid 2nd round, but might fall to late 2nd round. Thomas can be taken into consideration for the 49ers, as they have a good hole to fill at wide receiver with Boldin's departure.

Let's See Some Highlights:

I like what I'm seeing here. Good jump for the ball and an impressive catch over the reaching defender.

Solid run here by Thomas, gets off an arm tackle and he races for the end zone. Not that easy, to take him down.

Did a good job of bringing the ball in but should secure it better. Also shook off the defender for a missed tackle here.

Another impressive catch. Completely under PI here, and just makes a nice hop and pulls in the ball for a nice grab. Randy Moss like catch here.

Good catch in traffic here, secures the ball nicely, and then braces himself for the hit.

Strengths: Well-built frame, has ideal height, nice muscle definition, natural hand-eye coordination and natural hands that are great for attacking the ball away from body, very reliable in 50/50 situations, uses body strength and powerful hands to establish body position and out physical defensive backs, strategic route runner, and uses strong strides to accelerate and pick up speed as he goes.

Weaknesses: Lacks start/ stop athleticism, corners can match his burst and vertical speed, which stops separation between him and the corner, isn't the most explosive, can make strong blocks on defensive backs, but struggles to sustain them after awhile, and lacks lower body fluidity.

40 yard time: 4.57

Bench: 18 reps

Vertical: 35

Broad: 10'6"
